There are tons of museums. The some of the most famous are-
Art Institute of Chicago
DuSable Museum of African-American History
Field Museum of Natural History
John G. Shedd Aquarium
Museum of Science and Industry
Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio
Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum

The Brookfield Zoo (west of Chicago-can be reached easily via train) and the Lincoln Park Zoo are nice.

Be careful walking around the loop at night. It can be a little difficult. try to take as much public trasportaion as possible. Parking costs are really high.

Do not miss-
Millenium Park
Navy Pier (Ferris wheel)
Sears Tower

Check out the architecture too via a self guided tour or a hired tour.

Others
The Shedd aquarium is awsome if you like fish and sharks.

The Navy pier is pretty cool, but since its winter, the ferris wheel will probably not be operating.

The Hancock building - There is a resturant/bar on the 95th floor, where you can see all of chicago. Its best visited right around dusk when all the buildings have there lights turned on.
As far as restaurants, Hugo's Frog Bar and Gilbert's are a must. They don't like to make it public, but they share the same kitchen even though they have different fare. If you know the menus, you can order from Gilbert's even though you are in Hugo's and visa versa.
Have a wonderful time.
If you are looking for a great place for dinner, I love Hugo's Frog Bar on Rush Street. It's a little pricey but the food is great and the atmosphere is fun. I would recommend reservations.
Well there's lots of freebies available in the windy city
Big Chicks.Offers a free buffet to any one who buys a drink Sundays only
Kincades Free buffet fri.between 5 & 7pm
Navy Pier Free admission.Firework displays Wed. and Sat

go 2 navy pier go in the sears tower but if ur afraid of heights it;s not a good place to go If it's really windy the building will sway chicago is known 4 deep dish pizza so get some while ur there
Restaurants: Chicago favorites like the Billy Goat Tavern, Ed Debevic's, Poag Mahone's, etc. Definitely visit the museum campus, Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry (which is AWESOME), Shedd Aquarium. Millenium Park. Etc. Have fun!
