What's the best neighborhood in Chicago to raise your kids in?

Travel Info
Don't respond if you don't live in Chicago. I would also appreciate advice about schools closeby, parks, and things for the kids to do in the immediate neighborhood.

Travel Tips
Roscoe Village seems to be attracting a lot of young parents lately. Go down there on the weekend in the summer and it's Baby Stroller City. Not sure about the schools and stuff, but there are parks closeby, a playlot, etc. Lincoln Park, of course, is also a perennial parent favorite if you can afford it. Other than that, I'd try the northwest side .

Chicago magazine did a story recently on the best elementary schools in Chicago (http://www.chicagomag.com/me2/dirmod.asp... As far as nearby parks, check the Chicago park District website.

naperville
Naperville is not a neighborhood genius.
Anyway, I would say the far Northwest side. Neighborhoods like Norwood Park, Edison Park, Peterson Park, Sauganash, etc. There are some good schools around there too.
Riverside!
Hyde Park!
Aloha from Down Unda!
I grew up in Chicago & went to Ravenswood Elementary near Logan Square which seemed nicer than the elementary school across the street from the Chicago Coloseum (22d[?] & Walbash). The advantage of Roosevelt & Walbash was the 12th Street Beach & Grant Park, complete with the Planetarium, Buckingham Fountain & the Loop close by. The Brighton Park area (Archer nr 35th) & Kelly High (California & Archer Aves) wasn't that bad. I would have prefered Lane Tech but failed to come from a rich family. But you should seriously consider somewhere like Lincoln Community High School, Lincoln, Illinois (300 miles south of Chicago). The best school ever was Vacation Bible School, Pekin, Illinois. I joined the Army to escape Chicago & ended up with 23 yrs in Hawa!! & now it's being 'stranded' beachside in New South Wales. I'd say don't limit yourself to the dire straits of the snowbelt!
