What is the best route to get to the Shed's Aquarium from the South Shore Rail from south bend? |
Travel Info We are taking the South shore railroad from south bend, in to chicago, il to go to the shed's aquarium museum and are looking for the fastest route to get there. We have never been on the train or to the aquarium and the railroad website is very vague and confusing to us. Travel Tips The South Shore and Metra Electric share the same tracks on the south side. You can find schedules and information at http://www.nictd.com/ . You'll want to get off the South Shore train at the Roosevelt Road stop, which is in a trench east of Michigan Avenue. You can walk directly from there to the Museum Campus, which includes the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, and the Adler Planetarium. Once you walk up the steps to ground level, it's well signed and a pleasant walk even in winter. The walk should take no more than ten minutes (and possibly just five). If you want to go anywhere else in the city, you can either walk, take the #12 bus, or catch a tourist trolley west on Roosevelt Road to the 'L' station at Roosevelt and State. Take any of the 'L' lines (red, green, or orange) north about two stops to get to the downtown area. Others I believe that the South Shore Line hooks up to the Metra Electric line. You can walk to Shedd Aquarium from the METRA Electric stop at Roosevelt Road & Indiana -- you don't even have to cross any big streets. This METRA stop has been integrated in the Museum Campus. Have fun!! Take the train to the Roosevelt stop and just walk from there. It is an easy walk under Lake Shore Drive toward the lake. Check out www.metrarail.com for the details on times and cost. |
