How bad are the winters in Chicago compared to NYC?

Travel Info
Is there alot more snow? Or just colder temperatures? I am making the move and just wondering if I am going to be in complete shock!

Travel Tips
I grew up in NYC but lived in Chicago for 6 years -loved it. As a rule Chicago winters are a lot colder in terms of absolute temperatures.
The reason being of course that Chicago lacks a relative warm ocean next to it which moderates the temperature. In the oceans place is a very large frozen lake-Michigan.
Snow falls seem to be about the same .
The reason that Chicago is called the Windy City has nothing to do with meteorological conditions. The name was bestowed upon Chicago politicians by NYC newspaper writers who felt that the politicians were a bunch of wind bags-true story
BTW If you need to find a great Italian deli/grocery store D'Andreas on 7055 Cermak &Harlem in Berwyn is great. 708 -484-8121
The small shopping center it is in on the SE cornerof Harlem & Cermak has one highly recognisable feature in it: the stacked cars on a pole from Wayne's World.

Others
Chicago is known as the "Windy City" for a reason. Chicago gets more snow and it is generally colder. But the wind in the winter and the wide open spaces are the major difference.
last few years NY has gotten more snow than shytown, temperatures are similar but it does get windy here, specially near the lake
but you will love it here....
oh, and you will live in a home of superbowl winers, lol
