Do you have any information on the Chicago Housing Projects? |
Travel Info This was during the 1940's, when G.I.'s were coming home from world war II. There were several housing projects in the Chicago IL area. I would like to get any information from someone who was there, or a link to actually see these houses. Travel Tips I found these links to be most informative about the notorious Cabrini Green housing projects that were located on the north side. Also the Robert Taylor homes..thee largest housing project in the world that was located on the south side. 2 miles of high rises. Very intresting and insightful history behind these places. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cabrini_gre... http://www.thecha.org/housingdev/cabrini... http://www.voicesofcabrini.com/... http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/12/1... Others I'm assuming you mean single family housing boom and not the construction of public housing. I think the return of the GIs was responsible for the creation of bungalow housing, which Chicago is famous for. They were affordable single family homes that the GIs could start a family in. And when they came back from the war, boy were they ready to start a family! That's why it's called the baby boom. They needed housing for all those kids they were having. I added some links that might help. http://www.chicagobungalow.org/owners/hi... http://www.chicagobungalow.org/pdfs/aust... http://www.wildonions.org/rings-suburbs.... http://faculty-web.at.northwestern.edu/a...
