Is Calumet Park a bad area just outside of Chicago ? |
Travel Info Stayed at a hotel on South Ashland a few years ago. Didn't really do any research ahead of time. Just wondered. Travel Tips It's a close-in suburb, which means it's the place people have moved to from the inner city. For almost everyone who lives there, it's a step up, and the people who live there are mostly hard-working lower middle-class people. While it's not nearly as nice as suburbs further out, there's nothing really wrong with it. I've also stayed at a motel there, and I walked to the Ashland Metra station from the motel. The walk is rather creepy at night, but I don't really think the place is unsafe--just kind of run down. There's another Metra station on Burr Oak in Blue Island that is about the same distance away, and the walk to there is much more pleasant. Others It's mixed. There are some near poverty level in many of the suburbs in the area. I wouldn't make it a "destination" but you can certainly stop there, eat there, stay there, etc. using common sense. I Iive inwalking distance ,calumet park is a terrible place to live if you reside on the sidewalk or live in the alley.Otherwise nice area to raise a family. I live within walking distance,,,,,I LIVE HERE VERY LONGTIME Just add "Rock" at the end of your name and you'll be okay. Blackstone! Not great. I drive thru there every day on my way to work. |
