Want to visit the polish area of Chicago. Any recommendations for? |
Travel Info restaurants that offer authentic polish cuisine? Of course, we'll visit Bobek's, any other suggestions? Travel Tips I am more familiar with the 2nd area mentioned above. Start at the PMA...Polish Museum of America on Milwaukee AV. 984 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60622-4101 Go to the website for more info: http://pma.prcua.org/homeen.html... After visiting and gathering inf & brochures continue north on Milw AV. through various ethnic areas...all of which were Polish at one time...some still are, until you reach Niles, IL...approx. 7200 north...about 8 miles from museum. Milwaukee AV has been the "Main ST" of the Poles in Chgo for more than a century. Many Polish restaurants, bakeries, delicatessans, butcher/sausage shops, disco/night clubs, theaters, etc...even a radio station. If you still want more, continue on Milw AV to Milwaukee, WI!!! Others There are two areas in Chicago with heavily Polish populations. The first is made up of Clearing Ridge and Garfield Ridge (two neighboring community areas), which is where you'll find Bobek's. There's also a smorgasboard restaurant on 63rd Street which is very good. Check out Racine Bakery and Bakery on Archer too. The other area is on the northwest side of the city. I don't recall the name of the neighborhood, but on Milwaukee and Belmont, there is a buffet-style restaurant, which I highly recommend, called The Red Apple. There are also cafes and nightclubs in both of these areas which are frequented and/or owned by Poles. I'm glad you are going to visit Chicago! |
