Is East Garfield Park in Chicago an up-and-coming neighborhood? |
Travel Info I am thinking of buying a property in East Garfield Park and wanted to know if people think it is an up-and-coming neighborhood. And if so, are there certain areas of the neighborhood in particular that you think will become especially nice? Certain areas of the neighborhood that I should avoid? Travel Tips People say so, but I think it's going to take some time yet. There's some intriguing properties, and it's gentrifying slowly, but most of it is still unsafe at night. If you're going to look anywhere in Garfield Park, I'd recommend close to the Garfield Park Conservatory, the one area of the neighborhood that's pretty busy due to the conservatory itself and the nearby L stop. West of there gets very iffy, and I'd probably avoid wandering much west of Pulaski. Others I grew up in East Garfield Park and also lived west of the park two blocks from the Conservatory. My old two story house is listed at $224,000. The area that is being restored is further East like east of Halstead. I wouldn't invest around Garfield Park at this time. |
