Vacations in Chicago? |
Travel Info My boyfriend has always been fascinated with Chicago and I am trying to plan a 3 day trip. What are some really cool places to see or eat at? Also, he always talks about the park where the 1893 World's Fair took place, does anyone know where that is and if there are any hotels near by? Travel Tips Chicago's fun, though I'd recommend coming in the spring or summer, particularly if you're going to explore Jackson Park, where the 1893 Worlds Fair took place, south of downtown. You might contact the Chicago Architecture Foundation or Chicago Neighborhood Tours - both do a tour of the grounds. You should be aware that apart from Wooded Island and the Museum of Science and Industry, not much of the 1893 World's Fair remains, however. As for hotels, there's not much down by the Hyde Park neighborhood, where the park is, but there's plenty downtown, and Hyde Park isn't that far away. As for cool places to see, the Art Institute, Millenium Park, and the shopping along Michigan Avenue are always good bets. Great pizza is everywhere, particularly Lou Malnati's or Giordano's, and there's an endless supply of good restaurants (try chicagoreader.com and click restaurants for suggestions.) Others The park is called Jackson Park and is located by Hyde Park (Chicago neighborhood.) To find hotels nearby visit www.hotels.com, www.orbitz.com, www.cheaptickets.com or www.expedia.com. Cool places to see: Shedds Aquarium, Fields Museum, Museum of Science & Industry, Magnificent Mile, Millenium Park, Buckingham Fountain, Sears Tower, John Hancock Center. There is tons of cool eateries downtown- visit John Hancock for the coctails on 95th floor- place is called Signature Room and you can view Chicago skyline while sipping a margarita or glass of wine. It depends on when you come to Chicago. Visiting parks is not ideal when it is freezing outside - unless you want to do some cross country skiing right now. But there is always something cool going on. Stay downtown so you can travel by the trains to the neighborhoods. Some of the hotels have cheaper rates on the weekends. Its museums are great for art (the Art Insitiute -downtown), science (the Museum of Science & Industry - Hyde Park, the Field Museum of Natural History - downtown on the lake front and the Observatory - next to the Field Museum), animals (the aquariuim - next to the Feild Museum and the Lincoln Park Zoo - Lincoln Park). Chicago is great for its different neighborhoods. The World's Fair was on the lakefront down to Jackson Park. The "midway" was in the Hyde Park neighborhood. There are cool places to eat in any neighborhood, and you can find very expensive to moderate places to eat too. Chicago is great for Italian food, and you have to try the deep dish pizza. Visit the web site - metromix.com and you can get lots of ideas on where exactly you want to go. Have fun! DO NOT GO TO CHICAGO DURING THE WINTER MONTHS UNLESS YOU DON'T MIND GETTING NOSE BLEEDS FROM THE TERRIBLE WINDS THAT BLOW FROM THE LAKE! is he talking about melinium park? cause i'm not sure. but it seams like he is talking about downtown. i stayed in pamer house-awasome hotel, but a bit expensive. but check with ur boyfriend he should be more help then i |
