Need some ideas for "one-night-in-Chicago" trip.? |
Travel Info Surprising my wife with a trip to Chicago for our anniversary in April, and need some ideas for what to do. We're flying in on Saturday morning and flying out on Sunday around noon. She's never flown before and hasn't really been anywhere, so this is going to be a great surprise (SHhhhhhh!) I was thinking about either doing the dinner cruise in the harbor, there is a Cubs game that day (time TBA), or just walking around site-seeing. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Travel Tips Wow, you've already got a great day planned. All I would suggest is that if you're going to the Cubs game for your anniversary, sit anywhere but the bleachers. They can get pretty blasted out there and some jerk yelling something can ruin your whole day. But you've got the boat thing down, which is cool. All I would suggest is making a stop to the Signature Room at the top of the John Hancock building. There's an elevator on the south side of the building. Take it up to the Signature room bar, have a cocktail or two and marvel at the view. At night it's something else. Amnd best of all it's free ... well, you do have to buy a couple of drinks, but it's better than paying for the observation deck and having to deal with kids running around and yelling. Other than that, I'd suggest maybe catching a Second City show then stopping at the Old Town Ale House across the street for a drink and listen to the best jazz juke box in the city (ok, maybe a close second to the one in the Green Mill jazz club). And speaking of the Green Mill, that might be a good place to catch a show. It hasn't changed much since Al Capone hung out there. It can get crowded on Saturday night so if you're thinking of going there, get there a little early, say about 8 or 9. It's not that big and it can get packed, but it's a good place to make a celebrity sighting every once in a while. There is a cover charge, but not too much (about $10 at the most). It's on the far north side of the city, but you can get there pretty easily in a cab. It might cost about $20 each way depending on where your hotel is, but i say it's worth it. They have a website too so you can see who'll be there. Good luck and hope you get lucky :) Others Romantic hotel: Palmer House (it's a Hilton) Best museum: Chicago Art Institute (think Ferris Bueller) Navy Pier Museum of Science and Industry. Cubs game is always fun ... so is Wrigleyville (the area where Wrigley Field is). Have fun. well i have a friend coming to visit this weekend so u could have some of my ideas. we are going to see Wicked then doing dinner prob cheesecake factory (broadway play may be a good idea for your anniversary being that that is a big experience in chicago) friday we are going on a ghost tour (very interesting) should be alot of fun saturday we are going to a comedy club the aquarium is always a good date dinner cruises are very nice the best i have been on is the oddessey (sp) midnight cruise me, when visitors come i love to act like a tourist for the day You can do the Wicked thing that sounds cool. I've heard really good things about that play. If you want to take her to dinner you have to take her to the Signature Room. It's on the top of the John Hancock Building. It's a really romantic resturant, and it has an awsome view. Tour Macy's dept store downtown, Randolph and State streets be sure to walk through the candy section on the lower levels and check out all floors--many restaurants on the upper levels. The walk a block or so east to Mich Ave and walk north across the river and see the Tribune Tower and just wander more up Mich Ave-- Been there done that |
