What are the Downsides to living in Chicago?

Travel Tips
It's a terrific city overall, but the downsides are definitely there:

Winter's probably one of the biggest. It's extremely, extremely cold in the winter, and it just goes on for months. And during those months, it's grey and the trees are bare and the lake is frozen over and everything is covered in salt. It's very annoying, though it does make spring, summer, and fall seem even more pleasurable.

Parking is another. It's bad enough in the winter, when there is snow everywhere and cars keep getting towed, but it's also bad in the summer, when Cubs games and activities downtown prevent you from parking anywhere. There are parking restrictions and parking meters and towing companies, let alone the fact that traffic is terrible too, so you get very slowly to where you can't park.

Unfortunately, another downside is the public transportation system. Oh, yes, it's pretty broad across the city, and there are buses and trains to eveywhere, and not a lot of other cities can claim that. But on the other hand, the buses are always running late, the trains are crowded and slow, and you still often have to walk from wherever stop you go to.

But, still, overall, it's a terriific city, and a lot of fun. Despite the cold and the parking and traffic problems.

Others
Parking. You will either have to pay through the nose for a spot, or spend hours driving around looking for a curbside spot if you live in a place without parking. When it snows you have to either move your car to prevent it from being towed, or else shovel it out and then expect someone else to take the spot you shoveled out while you are gone, although some neighborhoods honor the lawn chair saving system once you go to the trouble to clear out a spot. It can be hard to sleep at night with the traffic and sirens going all night long. If you own a home in Cook County your property taxes will be astronomical and you will be paying into the most corrupt government system in the country. Other than that, Chicago is a great place to live.
I was actually thinking of moving to Chicago too, and I went to visit and the heart of the city is really nice, but still kind of expensive (same as NYC where I live now) and the outskirts are so boring. And in the winter from what I understand is BITTER cold. I guess its really your preferance.
Went to visit
Owning a car is very expensive between what snapoutif said about the parking, paying or hunting for it and insurance.
Crowded - Not a whole lot of places you can go to escape people.
Can be noisy. Sirens in the middle of the night going by, el train rumbling, people yelling in certain neighborhoods
Parking, as others have mentioned
Crime - sort of have to be on the lookout for trouble a lot of times.
Winter - sometimes it seems like it will never end.

But the good far outweights the bad
Well since i do live in Chicago the downsides is snow weather wise and parking you'll never get a parking spot in downtown also schools in chicago compared to the suburbs isn't so hot but the schools in the suburbs are the best and nothing more.
