Chicago weahter in april? |
Travel Info I am going to visit Chicago from April 5 to 11. What are people wearing around that time over there? Trench coats? Wool coats? Is it weird to wear down coats or anything with a furry trim? Are people still wearing turtlenecks in April?? Travel Tips Layers, layers, layers. Because the weather could be ANYTHING. I suggest a windbreaker with a hood, a sweatshirt with a hood, and then normal attire. If you're walking around you'll want to adjust with the temps. Mornings in the 30s and afternnons in the 60s are not at all uncommon. It could be a cold as 20 or as hot as 80 but these, particularly the latter, are pretty rare. Be ready for rain. And wind the closer you are to the lake. The items you mention above are not at all uncommon. Chicago is pretty much wear what you want. During a warm up after really cold weather (we had 0 degree days then days in the 30s) yo will see people in everything from heavy coats to sewatshirts with shorts. I even saw an idiot in Evanston joggong in a muscle-t and shorts at 5 below -- I DON'T ADVISE THIS!! He got MANY strange looks. Winter clothes up to Memorial Day are not usnusual if it's cold ooutside. Just depressing when it's cold and we can't use the lake yet. Source(s): Personal experience, also look up blogs and posts from Tom Skilling WGN 9 News. Other Travel Tips Cold, wet! I would suggest light jacket with a flip up collar over a turtleneck. It is called the Windy City and sits on lake Michigan. Defiantly bring light weight jackets and sweaters. April 5th is too early for me to put in my garden, maybe by the fifteenth, that means there is still a good chance of a frosty night. Should be nice though as spring starts to spring but won't be sprung. There's a saying about Chgo..."if you don't like the weather, just wait a few minutes. It will change." It won't be hot. It probably won't be freezing either but it probably will be chilly, rainy and windy with a couple sunny days, the rest cloudy. Forget the wool coat but bring the trenchcoat. A turtleneck is fine, so is a sweater. Furry trim shouldn't be necessary. Definitely a windbreaker, maybe a layer of fleece underneath. If you wear a hat...bring one. Don't forget the sunglasses and umbrella. Be prepared for anything. It's typically cold and rainy, but then again, I have seen sunny days with temps in the mid 70s. In fact, there have been a few Opening Day baseball games where people were in shirt sleeves. Just bring a rain coat and something to wear in case the weather turns nice. Don't go full-tilt winter. It's not going to be THAT cold. Theres no telling. Bring something incase of rain, biting cold, warm/hot, snow shoes and/or cross country skies. have fun and be sure to eat at Five Faces on Division & Dearborn north of downtown. Try it. You'll like it. |
