Does anybody here live in Zion, IL? |
Travel Info I am considering buying a house in Zion and would like to know if there are any areas i should avoid. Thank you. Travel Tips I don't live in Zion now but I grew up there. It was a nice place to live then but I think it's gotten worse since. I think the biggest issue in buying a house there would be if you have kids. The school district isn't great but it is better than a lot of the neighboring towns. Also, because of the schools, there is the issue of resale value on your house. Gurnee is a nice area with good schools but I know it's more expensive. Beach Park is also a bit nicer than Zion with better schools (although they use the same high school). If you do buy something in Zion, I would focus on staying East of Sheridan road. Those are nicer and safer neighborhoods. Source(s): ME!!! Other Travel Tips No sorry I don't not i Yeah, 23,601 people. It is only about 8 square miles so you should be able to drive around town pretty quickly and look for the "burglar" bars on windows. That is where you don't want to be! Oh well I am not sure if you know but Zion isn't any better than North Chicago. I read in the news paper that things be happening over there! Well I should say it depends on which area in Zion I grew up in Zion and my family still lives there. I visit twice a year. Zion is working hard to re-invent itself. The shops are coming along nicely and also the parks and library are good places to visit. Zion is close enough to Chicago for cultural/shopping opportunities and that is an important consideration. My nieces and nephews are going to Zion schools. They seem to be doing ok. I have traveled the US and lived in many places with my own children and I have decided that schools are generally about the same everywhere. Just depends on the committment of both parents and teachers to good education. (Be very careful about Winthrop Harbor, the town north of Zion, though. People love to move their because they think it has great schools and safety but along with that goes horrendous property taxes. People there have lost their homes simply because they could no longer afford the taxes). Areas to avoid? As in drug/crime areas? Maybe you should contact the police department -they could give you the most realistic view about that. Some real estate agents are honest about areas to avoid. I find that people's perception of an area is not always reality. Any neighborhood can have crime -any supposedly 'better' areas too. There are areas of town that are not the most lovely but still places of safety (I'm thinking of Ezra, the street I grew up on). Try getting to know the neighbors in an area you are thinking of buying in. If they are friendly and outgoing, you can be assured they are not cowering in their houses, afraid of local criminals. If you knock on door after door and no one answers, would you really want to be their neighbor, no matter how safe their area? Good luck with your search! |
