From personal experience I can tell you that hippies are quite strange people. I used to chill with them. There is something just off with them. And it's not always too much drugs, some that I knew never did anything more then smoke pot. But I am sure you can find some.

Rush st in old town?
Every time someone asks something about Chicago they always answer, Rush Street. Hippies in Chicago still hang out around Kedzie and Madison. These are genuine 60s hippies who are now graying and are in their 50s and 60s. There are also a pocket of hippies out in Lombard that hang out around Roosevelt and Edwards. Oh, and by the way, the SF hippies are all gone and replaced by homos.
They're mobilizing and are everywhere. A former one from here is running for Pres. and I'm not talking about him.
