Should I relocate to Chicago for graduate school? |
Travel Info I lived in Chicago for about 4 months and I remember the high crime, pollution, cold winters, etc. But there's a great graduate school program at DePaul University that could really help my career - should I move there? I would probably live near Lincoln Park. I live in Portland Oregon now. Travel Tips it's not as bad as you say. the pollution is relatively low considering the size of the city. If you've been to New York you'll know what I mean. Same goes with the high crime. Plus now we have the eyes in the sky. There are police cameras on the corners of crime areas. The winters, that's another story. Others Chicago is a great town! I'd go, it would be an experience! I would go there since depaul university is a good school and will help your career. just move back to portland for the summers and then when you get done move back there. Chicago is a great town for students! Good schools, cheap rent, good job opportunities, great nightlife. Keep in mind it's a LOT different than the Pacific Nortwest. I grew up in California, when I lived in Chicago sometimes I thought I was on a different planet. Sounds like you don't care for the city, so why move here? I'm sure there are a hundred other schools with great graduate school programs in crime-free warm cities with clean air. Seriously, if those things bother you, it might affect your studying and untimately your career, so find somewhere conducive to gaining your degree. DePaul isn't the only school in the country. Chicago is a big city and it's going to have big-city problems. If those things bother you, consider looking somewhere else. Not trying to be a wise guy, but just sayin'.... |
