What is fun and free to do in Chicago? |
Travel Info I am a married 22 year old female. What is there fun and free to do in Chicago? Travel Tips Well, like others have said, the free museum days. There's Millenium park, the Chicago Cultural Center, windowshopping on State Street and Michigan Ave, as well as Belmont and Armitage. Lincoln Park Zoo. You can ride your bike or rollerblade on the Lakefront bike path. In the summer there are free music festivals (Blues Fest, Jazz Fest, Taste of Chicago, the various neighborhood festivals). You can occasionally see free movies before they hit the theaters if you send an email to Time Out Chicgao magazine (http://www.timeout.com/chicago/index.jsp... Click on the link on the lower right side of the page. I've done this a couple of times. In fact, I saw "The Host" for free a few days before it came out officially. There's free poetry readings every Monday night at Weeds bar (1555 N. Dayton). It is WILD. You can scour the Time Out Chicago magazine for art gallery openings. My friends and I do this all the time. We hit a few gallery art shows on the weekend and they usually have free booze and free food! All you have to do is pretend you're admiring the artwork (LOL). There are a bunch of bars that have drink specials (OK, you do have to spend SOME money http://www.chicagoreader.com/thewell/)..... Oh, and pick up a copy of The Reader. They have a special feature called "Free Sh*t" where each week they tell about some place where you can get free food, booze, art objects, etc. And finally if you want to see theater for free, volunteer as an usher at a local theater. check with the Chicago League of Theaters (I think that's what it's called). Others walk by the lake. Admire the buildings. Go window shopping... The art museum has a free evening on thursdays. 5-8pm http://www.artic.edu/aic/visitor_info/... The Chicago zoo is free. All of the Chicago museums have a Free day but that is when they are the most crowded. The museum is free on thursday's its pretty cool, navy pier is free and they've always got something going on. If your into cooking robert morris college does a demo on tuesday's I think and they teach everyone in attendance a new recipe. that about it I think. Walking around Navy Pier is free. The free zoo is called Lincoln Park Zoo. The Country Music Fest and The Blues Fest are both free. Air and Water Show too. trust me im from chicago and bored of it already only thing is good is the house of blues |
