Going to Chicago, for a night and most of a day, where to bar hop, what hotels? |
Travel Info I am going to be in the O'hare airport area. Where should I stay? Hotels near the lake are more expensive, are they worth it? I know all the good clubs are near the lake. I've got transportation. Should I stay at the airport and save $$ or is the scene dwntwn worth it? How far is the lake from the airport? Sorry so many questions Travel Tips It's worth it for one night. You're probably going to spend nearly as much if you stay out at O'Hare anyway, and you're not going to have as much fun. Stay at a relatively cheap hotel downtown - the Red Roof Inn off MIchigan Avenue, for instance - and walk over to Rush Street. The airport is about 45 minutes from the lake, and it'll be much easier to walk back to your hotel that evening and leave the next morning than to chase back to O'Hare the same night. Others i'm from the southside but....hotels....near the lake are SO worth it...there are great clubs here...and the transporation is great. the lake from the airport depending on traffic is like....45 mins...or more....traffic from ohare is a b-t-c-h- lol but yeah.....it'll be worth it cuz u can do more around the lake and downtown!! Downtown hotels are not that much different than O'Hare ones. I stay often at the Courtyard by Marriott on Hubbard St. It is an easy walk to most of the bars on Rush Street, to the Hard Rock Cafe, to Michigan Avenue, and most importantly to Gino's East for deep dish pizza! As far as bars -- just walk up Rush Street! Or, check out some of the small Blues bars online. Other than that -- Second City is the best comedy club in the country/world. Just a short cab ride away, it's where most of the Saturday Night Live cast members have come from. |
