Chicago Tips?

Travel Info
My Roommate and I are going to Chicago for spring break. we're college students and i'm from a super small town, so does any one have any tips on what we should do while we're there so we can make the most of our stay?

Travel Tips
It kinda depends on whether you're drinking age or not. Not that you HAVE to drink, but a lot of cool places, like concert venues, etc., are 21-and-over places.

Of course there are the museums, navy Pier, etc., stuff that you probably know about already or can find out about on your own. But as far as tips, pick up a copy of Time Out Chicago magazine as soon as you get here. There are a ton of special things going on in the city that only last for a week or a day, etc. The best way to find out about special events is to pick up a copy of TOC or The Reader, a free weekly newspaper;.

Other than that, I'd recommend Second City comedy club. You can either pay to see the regular show or get in for free Saturday night through Thursday after the main show is over for the improv set. In fact there are a bunch of comedy clubs that have opened up around the city, or bars that have special comedy nights or improv troupes, most in the $5-$12 range in cover. Look in Time Out Chicago.. they have a special comedy listings section.

I'd check out the Garfield Park Observatory on west lake street. Easy to get to and pretty popular. It's a great place to be to see plant life when Chicago is cold, dreary and rainy. Or check out the National Museum of Mexican Art (http://www.nationalmuseumofmexicanart.or... And there are some great restaurants in the area with authentic Mexican food. The area is becoming kinda artsy, but some of the original flavor is still there.

I'd take a ride up to Evanston and walk around a big. Some nice shops, nice sights, a pretty decent movie theater. It's home to Northwestern University so there are tons of college students walking around.

There are a gazillion places that feature live music, from blues, to rock to hip hop, folk, etc. Again, check the local publications for concerts, locations and times.

I'd go to the Chicago Transit Authority website too. you'll probaby want to get a bus pass to save money and to check out the maps to see how thebuses and trains work. if you do this before you get here, you'll save a lot of time and not look so much like a tourist. I did this before i went to London and was zooming all around the city like I had lived there all my life. made things a lot easier.

Thats all I can think of....

Chicago rocks.Do everything possible.
Ok, make sure you go to Navy Pier, it's really fun there, lots of stuff to do. Go to at least one of the museums (Museum of Science and Industry, Field Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetartium) Catch a musical, play, or concert. Eat at The Cheesecake Factory, Rock n' Roll McDonald's, Ed Debevic's, and Dick's Last Resort. For deep dish pizza go to Home Run Inn, Giordano's, or Gino's East. Walk around the city, take the El train, visit Sears Tower, go to Grant Park and Millenium Park. Stroll along the beach. There's is so many things to do. You could also do a "Ferris Bueler's Day Off" kind of a thing and go wild. And if you want to see yourself on TV (no don't commit a crime) get tickets to see the Judge Mathis show taped at NBC Towers. It's a cool experience and pretty amusing too. Oh, and shopping is fun too. There's tons of stores and malls and such. Water Tower Place is good. I live an hour from Chicago so if you have anymore questions about the city let me know. Have fun!!!
