Whate are some things to do at a White Sox game? |
Travel Info I am going to U.S. Cellular field in 2 weeks and wanted to know if there are some traditions that I should know about. Travel Tips The first tradition at Sox park is tailgating. You can get to the game early, park in one of the lots and bring out the grill. Cook up some brats and watch as the crowds start filling the ballpark. It's a unique Chicago ballpark experience. The other thing about White Sox fans are there are no real "traditions". Sox fans don't go for that corny stuff like throwing the ball back after a home run (as if that's going to make the run be erased off the scoreboard). Sox fans make a point of giving a home run ball to a kid. Sox fans also don't automatically look to the broadcast booth at the seventh inning stretch to see which fairweather celebrity is singing that afternoon ("Hey, look, it's Carrot Top!"). If anything, they look toward Nancy Faust on the main concourse. About the only real "tradition" is singing "Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye)" when the opposing team takes out their pitcher. Most Sox fans don't whip out the cell phones, sit with their backs turned to the field in the bleachers so they can chat with their friends, hit on the girls in the tank top, stretch out so they can work on their tan, leave after the seventh inning even if their team is losing. They come there, watch the game from begining to end and get pissed if the Sox lose. Oh, and if you can, wear black.... Others drink, eat, drink, drink I believe Bill Veck (former owner of the White Sox) said Cubs fans are the type of people who have animals embroidered on their shirts and Sox fans are the type of people who have animals tattooed on their chests. eat hotdogs, and drink beer. Sox games are actually pretty boring. next time try a Cubs game ;) Wear black NEVER MENTION THE CUBS!!!! (you may catch a beat down!!!) Understand that if someone yells out southside pride-it's not just a saying, it's a way of life Don't wear anything with the cubs logo on it-Chicago sports are just that except for baseball. Don't correct anyone if you hear them say Comiskey Park. Remember-good buys wear black If you don't know any trivia-don't say anything. Always get a hot dog-not the polish, or jumbo-just a regular dog...and please know that you're in Chicago-so please when ordering your dog-DO NOT put ketchup on your dog (and note-I said dog-not HOT dog...) And don't get drunk-that's disrespectful-sox fans are blue collared and have respect for the game-Cubs fans (the demons that they are) are spoiled babies, who love to get drunk and whine about daddy's bank accounts-they have no respect for baseball, and are expected to be drunk and unruly. SOUTHSIDE FOR LIFE!!!!! Enjoy the food, they do have an array of foods to pick from, unlike another team there. And I AM a Cubs fan!! If it's hot, cool off in one of the bleacher showers. They always have a little something going on for that particular game too. Tailgating is great there too, since parking IS on the premises. |
