Chicago with kids? |
Travel Info Coming to Chicago for a wedding in late June. Spending a couple extra days. Going to a Cubs game. Looking for other unique Chicago "not to be missed". Travel Tips It sort of depends on how old the kids are. Really young kids might like the Chicago Children's museum at Navy Pier (http://www.chichildrensmuseum.org/visit.... or the Museum of Science and Industry. There's lots of buttons to push and switches to turn and the kids seem to go nuts for that stuff. Older kids might like a trip to Dave and Busters (http://local.yahoo.com/details?id=342977... a family restaurant place on the city's North side that has a restaurant, bar and video game rooms. Or you could check out shopping on Michigan ave. They could visit the Nike Store. Even if you don't buy anything, it's like walking into a Nike museum with Michael Jordan jerseys and other sports memorabelia. And not too far away is the Apple store, with the latest Apple computers, iPods and accessories, etc. They can mess around with those for a while. And you can allways walk down to Water Tower Place, an indoor shopping mall with a lot of cool stores. Not sure if your kids are into museums or art, but they can check out the National Museum of Mexican Art in Pilsen (http://local.yahoo.com/details?id=342977... It's not a huge museum but it's still pretty popular. There's also the Garfield park conservatory, a great indoor plant greenhouse (http://www.garfield-conservatory.org/).... And you can always walk down to the lakefront, either at Navy Pier or near Buckingham Fountain and rent bikes and take a ride up and down the lakefront. It's gets crowded on the weekends and you have to be careful but it's a fun experience. Others the museums - the field museum and science museum are really good for kids! Take em to the top of the sears tower and let them think its still taleest in world... its fun. Gotta get that deep dish pizza, and how about a walk by the lake, or a ferris wheel ride on Navy pier? have fun! Our kid is a bit younger...three years old. The museums will be a bit boring for him, so we're headed for the Shedd Aquarium. We're also betting that he'll get a kick out of taking a ride on the L, the elevated railway. Fish and trains...what three year old would not love those? And I'll be dragging him up the Sears Tower whether he wants to go or not. We've also heard there's a good children's museum...will be checking back here for other answers. Those are pretty solid places to take kids. Kohls Childrens Museum on Green Bay Rd in Wilmette is loads of fun. Kids will also love Navy Pier and especially the massive ferris wheel. Shedd Aquarium and the Notebaert Nature Museum are also great for kids and don't require you to walk your legs off. The Shedd is also right on the lakefront by Grant Park and you can walk to both without crossing streets, it's on the Museum Campus with the Field Museum, Adler Planetarium and Soldiers Field. There's even a beach right there that's clean and safe and lots of fun. |
