When will we know for sure if the Chicago Spire will be built or not? |
Travel Info 3D models, pictures and all of that has been shown, but like when will we know for sure if the tall building would be built or not? Travel Tips I can tell you that Walsh construction is in on this HUGE contract. They have been holding hands with Daley for decades. The Daley regime will try to make this project go through the red tape as quickly as possible. The land is going towards custom re-zoning on this plot of land, and it is a choice piece of land. Architectually, it is in a barren spot of land right on the LSD bridge and the river. It could be a goldmine as Daley brings people back into the city from the suburbs and throughout the country. It is going to happen. I'd guess July 1, 2011. Others I wouldn't assume it's going to be built until you see construction cranes out there digging in the dirt. There's been a lot of grandiose plans for buildings in Chicago over the years that never got built - even ones that nearly reached the stage of being built, and then still never got done, like the multiple plans for Block 37. To me the Spire seems like one of those projects that'll never actually happen - too much building in too down a housing market - but who knows. will be years; locals / folks living nearby are opposed to it....too much traffic....up to the Mayor....Richie Daley....really....ask him. Last I heard some days ago on the local news they said we could find out in less than a month, and as soon as the project would be approved construction would start immediately. I really hope they do approve it. Calatrava is an amazing architect and the spire would just add to the skyline. They say the people living in the area are not too happy as construction will cause a lot of congestion, plus people just stopping by to look. I searched some news articles and they said it will start on the third quarter of 2007 and will be completed by 2010. |
