Relocating to Milwaukee Mt. Mary area. HELP!!!!? |
Travel Info I'm going to be moving from Chicago to go to school full time in Milwaukee at Mt. Mary College. Anyone have suggestions on where to live? What the area is like? I don't mind living within 15 of school and since the burb area is cheaper, I don't mind. I know nothing about the city. I'm afraid of moving into the ghetto. Thanks! Travel Tips The area around Mt. Mary is extremely safe - that's right next to Mayfair Mall which is one of the most upscale suburban malls in the city. Just don't live in neighborhoods within 5 miles west of the Milwaukee River - those areas are probably the most "ghetto". The areas east of the Milwaukee River and west of the lake are usually the safest (Milwaukee's Eastside, downtown Milwaukee, Shorewood, Whitefish Bay, etc). Others Live in the suburbs!! Check out Franklin, New Berlin, Hales Corners, Greendale, Brookfield (a little expensive though), etc. None of these places are "ghetto", and it is better to live in the suburbs and commute. College areas are kind of run-down and if you go a few blocks in either direction, you run into some not so nice neighborhoods. Trust me, I know. Milwaukee is having major crime issues. Crime is up 30 percent in the inner city...Stay away from there. Don't live near Mayfair mall...They are having major crime problems as well...Shoppers bringing guns to the mall, etc. Don't shop there on Friday or Saturday nights!! If you need any more advice, let me know...I'm from Milwaukee! |
