Spring Weekend Getaway In Wisconsin? |
Travel Info I'm looking to get away with my husband this weekend, we're young, and want to have fun. Where is a good place to go in Wisconsin. We're looking for something relaxing and tranquil. Travel Tips Here is a trip suggestion I made on another post with a similar question: A beautiful trip is to drive north along Hwy 35- the Great River Road- up the Mississippi River from La Crosse. There are beautiful little towns all along the way, Fountain City, Alma, Nelson, and Pepin, full of great stores and antique shops. Be sure to stop in Stockholm, there are wonderful shops, art galleries and a terrific bakery. There is a beautiful historic hotel in Pepin, The Anderson House where you can stay, and they have a great restaurant. http://www.historicandersonhouse.com/...... In Nelson, take the bridge across to Wabasha, MN. There you can visit the National Eagle Center, and get up close and personal with their resident eagles. It is a small center, but is a great time. You can have lunch at Slippery's Tavern (of Grumpy Old Men fame), just down the road. http://www.nationaleaglecenter.org/...... From Wabasha, head down Hwy 61 (MN) to Winona. This is another beautiful riverside town. http://visitwinona.com/ In Winona, after seeing the sights, you can cross the bridge back into Wisconsin, practically right back where you started. Source(s): I live in western Wisconsin Other Travel Tips Wisconsin Dells!!! Wilderness resort is one of the best waterpark ever :) We went there and have a blast !!! Wisconsin Dells, they have lots of hotels with indoor water parks, and lots of other around town activities, its kinda like being in mini Orlando. Wisconsin Dells is not a good place for relaxing and tranquility. Too touristy. Try St. Germaine. Its wonderful!! We always stayed at Elberts Resort. The cottages are to die for. That is if you stay in the larger ones. The smaller ones are ok. We havent stayed there in years since we now live in Floida and I have lost the number. But Im sure you'll be able to find it. Good luck!! Wisconsin Dells is great but they might not have a lot open yet...you might consider Milwaukee (a smaller version of Chicago) or if you're looking for a resort getaway try Lake Geneva which is a lot closer than the Dells (in relation to Chicago). If you want to drive even further you might want to check out Green Bay (about 110 miles north of Milwaukee) or Appleton. www.genevalakesresort.com and personal experience (I've been all around Wisconsin). |
