Chicago: Can anyone give insight on the following areas: Woodlawn, Greater Grand Crossing and South Shore? |
Travel Info I'm looking to purchase a home, but I'm not trying to pay half a million dollars for closet space. Travel Tips It all depends on what parts of these neighborhoods you're trying to go. I really think if you have found something in the Woodlawn area that you consider that is an upcoming neighborhood. there are building new houses and turning old buildings into condos. I grew up and went to school in the area and i never thought it would turn out the way it has. The University of Chicago and Apostolic Church I believe has a lot to do with it. but make sure you stay east of Drexel St. because they are lost in time on the upgrade:) Others Here's a link to a Chicago Tribune map that lists every Chicago neighborhood and the median prices for homes for 2005 and 2006, so it's fairly accurate.... http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/acro... Consider Northwest Indiana. Some of the areas are nicer than anything in Ill without the higher taxes and the same commute to the city. South Shore is older and a mixed area. Woodlawn, you might want to think about. As someone who lives near these locations it seems that the average price of an older home is anywhere from $150K to $250K and they look like nicer homes. You might want to consider an area like Hyde Park since its the home of one of the major universities in the area (University of Chicago) and its just north of South Shore and there is always a lot to do in that area as well. http://yochicago.com/neighborhoods/south... , http://yochicago.com/neighborhoods/woodl... |
