How do you get from Chicago Midway to the Mag Mile area?

Travel Info
I'm going to chicago in a couple weeks for Dillo day. We're flying in to Midway airport- is a cab the only way to get downtown? What are the public transit options?

Travel Tips
Take the Orange Line. It stops at Midway, and goes straight to the Loop in about 30 minutes for $2.00. Simply go to Roosevelt on the Orange Line, transfer to the Red Line, and go north to the Chicago stop, then walk east two blocks, you'll be in the heart of the Magnificent Mile.

Or, if you feel like a pleasant strolll, you can decide not to transfer to the Red Line - just take the Orange Line around the Loop to Adams and Wabash, then walk east to Michigan Avenue and then north - then you'll go by the Art Institute of Chicago, Millenium Park, across the Chicago River, and right into the Magnificent Mile area near the Tribune Tower.

Of course not. The Orange Line can be taken from Midway to the downtown area. You'll want to get a map. I recommend you stop at the Cultural Center (Lake St./Michigan Ave.) to get free maps and other brochures when you arrive. Then you can head north to the Mag Mile.

The website below features system maps, where you can track the path of the Orange Line from Midway to downtown.

I love Retardstoner's suggestion to try some other activities while you're here. Chicago is SO much more than shopping, and it's well worth it to wander beyond the downtown areas.

You can take the orange line to the loop, and get off at Randolph/Wabash, walk east one block, and either walk north to the mag. mile, or you can also take a bus northbound to where you want to get off (with the train ticket you received at the station you got on at, I believe you can transfer to a bus for free).

Another suggestion completely, if you arent rich, would be to take a look at the stores on State Street. You would get off at the same station, then just walk west one block instead. There's plenty of stores, and it almost rivals that of N. Michigan/Mag. Mile.

If this is your first time in chicago, I'd recommend researching for other things than just shopping. Go out to a nice ethnic resaurant, visit navy pier, go to the top of the hancock tower or sears tower, go to a baseball game at wrigley field, or something else that sounds fun.
Take the Orange line into downtown Chicago. You can catch that at Midway airport. Here's the trip planner number and website. I hope it help you... 773-836-7000 and www.rtachicago.com
At Midway, catch the Orange Line to downtown...if you want to check out State St, get off at State and Lake...youll see the famous Chicago Theatre if you get off there..and theres the big Carson Pirie Scott store there on State..but ahh, Marshall Fields is gone....or..get off at Randolph and Wabash if you want to skip State St.. get off there, go one block east and head north to the Mag Mile...its a nice walk, and youll cross the river as you head north..

So yeah, take the orange Line....it will be wayyy cheaper than a cab...and go eat a nice lunch with the money youll save by not taking a cab!

And if you want to do something great...go to the John Hancock building, its on the Mag Mile...go to the top of it for a great view.
Just so you know, when people are talking about the Orange Line or Red Line, they are talking about the "El" or the elevated train.
