Travel Info Who can tell me about drake hotel in chicago? Travel Tips If you want to know all about drake hotel in chicago I suggest you go to www.chicagohotelsdowntown.info... Source(s): You didnt really say what you want to know???? It's old...It's okay but I prefer a more modern place. The Drake is gorgeous and located in a historic building. It's right by Oak Street Beach and the high-designer Mag Mile shopping (Chanel is housed in the same building). I've been there for afternoon tea several times, which is a lot of fun. Its in a great, safe area..and in a great location right by the lake and michigan avenue shopping. It's the second oldest hotel in Chicago. the first is the palmer house. Afternoon tea is great there. The recent renovations have made the rooms much bigger. They had a problem 2-3 years ago during a dinner party where 150 people became ill. The hotel tried to deny it. Eventually, some of the chefs were canned for that occurence and the checkbook was opened and everything resolved. It has a great reputation for being #1 in service and classic Chicago style. It is now owned by Hilton. I stayed there about a year ago, being originally from Chicago and knowing the great location for mag mile shopping and access to the lake front. The hotel is older, so the rooms are smaller than the newer hotels, the wood and decor is dark, though the rooms are comfortable enough. The bathrooms had been updated with marble and granite, but it really was not all that I expected it to be, having stayed in many other 5 star hotels. Don't get me wrong, it was nice and the service was fine, just not what I would have expected from the Drake. But, I will say you can great room rates there considering the location if you book ahead online. |
