Commute from Wrigley to East Chicago?

Travel Info
I'm thinking about living a block from Wrigley Field and will be working in East Chicago for U.S. Steel (101 East 129th street) East Chicago, IN. What is the best and quickest route? How long do you think it will take if I am working the 7 am to 3 pm shift? What about tolls, can I bypass any? I'd like to skip out on as many tolls as possible, but I also understand it might take longer to get around them. Let me know your opinion. Thanks.

Travel Tips
I recognize your name. You've been looking for a place near fun to commute to E Chgo for a long time.

Wrigley Field is about 180 blocks from U.S. Steel. That's 22.5 miles...a long way in the city. Mapquest figures 27 miles and a 40 min ride but takes you to the Kennedy Expwy then south to the Dan Ryan...the ride will be at least double that with construction delays.

Below is a revised mapquest route bypassing the Ryan and Skyway. It's listed at 24.11 miles and 54 min:

: Start out going EAST on W ADDISON ST toward N CLARK ST. 0.6 miles Map

2: Turn RIGHT onto N LAKE SHORE DR. 0.5 miles Map

3: Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto ramp. <0.1 miles Map

4: Stay STRAIGHT to go onto N LAKE SHORE DR W / N LAKE SHORE DR. <0.1 miles Map

5: Merge onto US-41 S via the ramp on the LEFT. 12.5 miles Map

6: Turn LEFT onto E MARQUETTE DR / US-41. Continue to follow US-41. 0.9 miles Map

7: Turn LEFT onto E SOUTH SHORE DR / US-41. 2.1 miles Map

8: Turn LEFT onto S BAKER AVE / US-41. Continue to follow US-41. 0.1 miles Map

9: Turn RIGHT onto S BURLEY AVE / US-41. 0.2 miles Map

10: Turn LEFT onto E 87TH ST / US-41. Continue to follow US-41. 1.9 miles Map

11: Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto S INDIANAPOLIS AVE / US-12 E / US-20 E / US-41 S. Continue to follow US-12 E / US-20 E (Crossing into INDIANA). 4.4 miles Map

Other Travel Tips
Since most Wrigleyville residents have never traveled south of Soldier Field, you had nobody in the neighborhood to help you out :)

You have two options. The Dan Ryan to the Skyway will most likely be the faster route, even with construction.

However, you can take Lake Shore Drive to South Shore Drive. You will catch lights but it may be quicker than taking the Dan Ryan, especially with the construction. Lake Shore Drive to South Shore Drive to Indianapolis will get you there. You pass through some rough sections on South Shore Drive but you move at a good pace and there isn't much traffic on those streets.

Good Luck at your new job!!!
Lifelong Chicago resident (though Daley makes me rethink that daily - pun intended).
Wrigleyville isn't all that worthwhile a place to live. For one thing, it borders Uptown which is a bad neighborhood full of crazies and transients probably worse than East Chicago. And Chicago's North side is way more crowded and more expensive than the South side, and the South side isn't all ghetto by a long shot. I used to live in the Taylor Street Neighborhood and Pilsen near UIC and absolutely loved it and made way more friends than in Logan Square or Uptown.
I could get used to East Chicago, too. I mean, if I worked for US Steel, I'd live in East Chicago near my work, plenty do, why not? Nice people there, too. And I'd rather be an Indiana Resident than an Illinois one.

But if you must, The Howard El is now connected to the Dan Ryan, so Addison will take you all the way south, where you could probably park a car or a scooter to get you to work, or maybe a train from the loop.
Dang you really want to move to Chicago huh...Well there always the option to take public transit.... www.rtachicago.com or call 7738367000.... I believe you can take Lake Shore Drive there
