Is Addison Illinois a safe place to live, low crime, no gangs, etc? I'm thinking of moving there.? |
Travel Info Never been to the city myself but thinking of moving there. Travel Tips Gangs are all over. Avoid the cheaper apt. areas. There is a large Hispanic population which has led to a variety of stores and restaurants where you can find some really great food and a few bargains. There are two large thrift shops on Lake st. (rt 20) just west of Addison rd. There is a great grocery store called Caputos on lake st with fresh fruits and vegetables and a Jewel too. The people are generally hard working middle class with a good mix of age groups. Not the best place I've ever been but i go out of my way to shop there from time to time. Marcus cinemas has an IMAX on lake st by rt 53 and there's a walmart and a sam's club. Lots of retail, people are generally friendly. go and visit, pick up a Daily Herald in the area and check the police reports for addresses of reported crimes to give you a better idea of where problems tend to cluster. :) Others Hard to say - it depends on what you are accustomed to and what you consider "safe". I have lived all over that area and it was fine. I will caution you that there are gangs just about everywhere in the Chicago Suburbs - Even the north shore and other VERY expensive areas. They probably won't bother you. I would avoid the really inexpensive apartment complexes. Drive around the area at around 7 pm and then again at 11:30 pm on a Saturday night (especially if the weather is nice) and you will get a good feel for how safe it is. Addison is not a heavy crime area - not as rough as say Elgin, certain parts of Aurora, parts of Waukegan or of course certain areas in Chicago. I pass through Addison occasionally and do not detect any problems at all. Fuel and tobacco prices are low! Go there yourself and drive around the streets. Sit in a couple of grocery store parking lots for a while. You'll see who lives there as they shop. Get a local newspaper and check out the locations of the available apartments, condos, town-homes and houses. |
