Where are the best neighborhoods in Chicago? |
Travel Info I'm thinking about moving to Chicago and was curious where the best places for a single twenty-something to live? Travel Tips Depends on what you're looking for. If you're into the basic rock and roll scene, bars with young urban professionals, etc., head for Wrigleyville or Lincoln Park. If you're more into the artsy "hipster" scene, indie bands with a dash of hip hop, try Wicker Park/Bucktown. if you prefer something relatively quiet, family oriented, check out Roscoe Village or Andersonville. If you're not into the bar scene at all, plan on working downtown and want to be close to that, try the South Loop or the Greektown area. If you want to be an "urban adventurer" and want to be around "regular folks", look at Logan Square or Ukranian Village. I'd also highly recommend Edgewater, the neighborhood where I live. It's a very mixed neighborhood and some newcomers to Chicago might find that intimidating (if they're used to living in an area with pretty much one type of person.. let's be frank here). In fact, of the neighborhoods I mentioned, Wicker Park, Logan Square, Ukranian Villiage and Bucktown are pretty mixed as far as people. Lots of people of all nationalities live in Edgewater, the rent is still pretty cheap, lots of public transportation nearby... a good deal overall. Anyway, do a web search of the above areas I mentioned. There are websites that have details about them. Good luck. Others Lakeview, Lincoln Park, and the Bucktown / Wicker Park area are probably the most popular areas. Those are the areas that run from Fullerton to Diversey and the lake to Ashland, and the area surrounding the North/Damen/MIlwaukee interchange. But by far the most popular area for twenty-somethings is probably the Lakeview neighborhood - more specifically the area from Diversey on the south to Irving Park on the north, the lake on the east to Ashland on the west. niles, skokie, morton grove its really safe around here and pretty close to chicago...depends how far in chicago you work and stuff.. its pretty much an all around great place to live.. fun places to live would be in Andersonville or near Belmont (and the Cubs)... depends on your interests also. if you rely on public transport, it may be nice to choose something near the el... but generally speaking the further north you go, the nicer... plus there are a lot of colleges on the north side= 20 something crowd Wrigleyville would be my pick!!! Its a great place and right near the wrigleyfield(obviously) so definitley a fun locale!! A lot of young people and not too far from downtown. xx 21 year old college student! For a single, 20-something.. Wrigleyville..Lincoln Park...great areas and quite expensive to live there.....but if you go further north, it will be cheaper.. |
