Wow, I found info on Pilsen like that (snaps fingers) just by typing in "Pilsen AND Chicago" in the Yahoo search box. Here's what I found. The websites listed tell of some of the historic people and sites in the neighborhood:

As you might be able to tell from the websites, Pilsen has a large Latino/Mexican population. A log time ago it had a primarily Czech/Eastern European population but in the 50s and 60s the neighborhood received an influx of mexican residents. It's went thorugh some rough times, but it's been having a rebirth lately as Mexican artists began moving back into the neighborhood and started constructing artists lofts and galleries. Pretty soon artists of all types started moving in because the rents were cheap. The "hipsters" are now coming in (it always happens that way... artists make it safe for the "yuppies" to move in and take over. The same thing happened in Wicker Park). Rents are climbing and fancy restaurants are moving in. But there are still some cool things there like the National Museum of Mexican Art (http://www.nationalmuseumofmexicanart.or... a VERY cool museum. Hope this helps.
Go to Metromix.com for more detail, but off the top of my head:
Marilyn Miglin was born there.
National Museum of Mexican Art is there and there are a lot of really cool art galleries.
Nuevo Leon is a great reastaurant there

Take a drive to check out the murals all over the place. Most are signed and accessable. Check out the murals on the school at 18th ST & Damen and the ones on another school and church at 18th PL & Paulina. The famous muralist works at the school at 18th & Damen. He'll share his story.

The Mexican Fine Arts Museum is just west of 19th & Wood. Check it out. Below is the website:
