Anyone know a clean nice beach around near north aurora/ aurora or chicago? |
Travel Info thanks alot. Travel Tips Aurora is fairly close to Naperville, which has a "beach" in the downtown area. It's part of a city park with an enormous pool with sand leading up to it and next to the Riverwalk. As many people have said, the beaches in Michigan are cleaner. The Indiana Dunes are just down the coast from the steel mills, so that's not much of an alternative. However, your question was about Chicago. Oak Street Beach is the closest to downtown and is great for people watching. North Avenue Beach has volleyball nets, an outdoor Crunch gym, and Castaways, a popular boat-shaped hangout on the weekends. Further north is Montrose beach, which is populated by locals and families. Others I really don't like the beaches in Chicago. I usually go to the Indiana or Michigan Dunes. I'm from around the same area and I really don't know of anything local. None of them are what I would call clean along Lake Shore Drive. Make sure you get the daily water count there also ( the Pooh check) I would suggest private beach clubs out in the burbs if what you want is sand and water. Theres plenty of those around. You can go as a guest sometimes. Check in Grundy County There should be several. There are a few county parks with small lakes that might better be described as ponds, but Aurora is quite a ways from Lake Michigan. Your best bet is probably to head down to I-80 and go over to Indiana Dunes. Figure an hour to get there. Ponds and small streams in the suburbs are little more than drainage ditches. Yuck. I wouldn't even swim in Lake Michigan in Chicago, it is so dirty, but people do. I go to the state of Michigan when I want to swim in the lake. |
