Travel Info I want to move to Dallas from Chicago is the cost of living more reasonable and what about scholls and jobs? Travel Tips Well, CNN's website has a cost-of-living calculator that mighrt help (http://cgi.money.cnn.com/tools/costofliv... And so does Homefair.com (http://www.homefair.com/find_a_place/cal... and cityrating.com (http://www.cityrating.com/costofliving.a... According to the last site, the cost if living in Dallas and Chicago is surprisingly about the same. Chicago is, in fact, slightly less expensive. I used $50,000 as a sample salary and found that if you make that much in Dallas, you only need $49,385 to maintain the same lifestyle in Chicago Others The cost of living will be less. Texas had no state tax and the public school system will be better than the Chicago schools. I recommend you look in the north suburbs (Farmers Branch, Plano) area. The weather will be hotter in Summer and milder in Winter. Texas is very big on sports especially football. I think you will like Dallas. Good luck. Dallas is a great southern city, flat like Chicago with lots to do - wide variance in culture (hispanic, east indian, american indian, etc.) and lots of festivals. Go to their tourism site Check out the state of texas site also If you've never been take a quick jaunt and soak up the culture, rent a car and explore (just make sure you have a navigation system in your vehicle or computer access at your hotel or a great concierge). Happy moving/travels |
