Travel Info To take the amtrak can I only take it from the union station or I know it stops closer to my place by montrose street so can I get on there to go to Milwaukee or do I have to get on at union station? Travel Tips The train from Chicago to Milwaukee doesn't stop at Montrose. The only other stop in Illinois is at Glenview. The train you're seeing at Montrose is the Metra train, a local communter train. It doesn't go to Milwaukee. You'll have to catch the train to Milwaukee downtown. I used to go to Milwaukee on the train a lot on daytrip. It was kinda fun. And if you're going to a ball game, there's a free shuttle bus from the train station to the ball park. Union station is the only stop in the city for the train to Milwaukee. Note: you will not be allowed to take the 2:05p.m. train to Milwaukee. It stops there however it is not allowed for the shuttle to Milwaukee. You have to take the Hiawatha service train. They have limited food and beverage service at your seat. I think the round trip is still around $40. If you have a AAA membership you get a 10% discount. When you arrive you can walk to downtown. There are cabs waiting to take you anywhere you want to go. The AMTRAK Empire Builder out of Union Station in Chicago only stops one place prior to Milwaukee.
