Other Travel Tips
Q101 is the best for alternative rock. They also play some oldies. 103.5 is a mixed station. Sometimes they play alternative and oldies but you have to catch them at a good time. 92.3 is good too. I change the stations around a lot so I'm not sure if the last 2 play alternative all day.
V103
For REAL alternative music, try some of the local college radio stations. By the time Q101 or other stations like it get the music, it's been heard by a million people. Try WNUR (northwestern radio station) 89.3, or WLUW (loyola University radio) 88.7.

I started listening to WNUR a looooong time ago and I heard bands like Bow Wow Wow and 2 Live Crew LONG before they were even mentioned on mainstrem radio. (Like I said, it was a LONG time ago...)

As far as mainstream rock, any of the local stations will do. The Drive (97.1), WXRT (93.1)... Oldies might be tougher. Most of those stations are fading away. I think there's one at 94.7
