Anybody live in or visit Illinois or Kentucky? Whats your favorite food stop there? And do you like Superman? |
Travel Info My girlfriend and I are staying in Paducah, KY and going to the 29th annual Superman festivities in Metropolis, IL in early June. I would like any advice of what to do in that area or anywhere in Central/Southern IL or Northern KY. I want to stay somewhere else for a day and see what else IL or KY has to offer. Does anybody know of a place that would be nice to go for a day? Maybe even a good rest stop? Best place to stop for food? I prefer central/southern IL since I have lived in Chicagoland my whole life and rarely get to see the rest of the state. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You in advance. Travel Tips Spend at least 1/2 day in Springfield to see Lincoln's home and the Lincoln Museum & Library. All Illinoisians should experience a visit. Also his grave, office and other pre-Civil War bldgs. Check them out below: http://www.alplm.org/home.html http://www.nps.gov/liho Get the original corn dog on old Rt 66 while in Springfield: http://www.cozydogdrivein.com/ Closer to Metropolis is Cave-In-Rock State Park. Interesting scenery on Ohio River. Stay in one of the park cabins. Hike in the park. http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/landmgt/par... Shawnee Nat'l Forest takes up most of that region also: http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/shawnee/... In western Kentucky check out Mammouth Cave: http://www.mammothcave.com/ Don't forget Bowling Green....home of Corvette. Take a tour of the factory and visit the museum: http://www.corvettemuseum.com/plant_tour... Others Visit both every few years. No favorites. I do not like superman. Go to the "Land Between the Lakes" area. There's also Mammoth Cave. Bowling Green has a car race track. |
