Moving Out of Chicago...? |
Travel Info I am permanately moving out of Chicago for a great job. I've lived here all my life (46 years) and this is a hard thing for me. What can I do to take part of this great city with me? Serious replies only. Oh, I'm moving in August. :+[ Travel Tips It's probably easier to read the Tribune online, but you could certainly subscribe to Chicago Magazine - that way you can keep track of all the major happenings in Chicago, the restaurants, and plays, and even decide - hey, I want to visit Chicago to see this play or that art festival. Don't forget, you can always visit frequently. I know it's not the same, but it's a starting point. Another thing you can do is put pictures of Chicago up in your place - maybe some nice shots of the skyline. Support Chicago teams, even if you're in your new city - it doesn't matter if you're in Denver and everyone there is a Broncos fan, darn it, you're a Bears fan and you're sticking with it. And, don't forget, those teams visit - if you're in, say, San Diego, and the Cubs are coming to play the Padres, get in full Cubs gear and go root for the Cubs. Others Sounds like you already love the city enough that you are taking a part of it with you. I have been in the military 23 years and still love everything about Chicago...yes even the sports teams that break my heart. Remember to take lots of pictures of your favorites place. Like the museums and grant park. Do not forget the taste of Chicago. maybe while your still threre try to go to all of your favorite places in chicago and take pictures. and when you move into your new house you could look back at those photos and remember all the good times you had there. or if you had the time maybe visit chicago every once in a while. just enjoy it while you can!!! :] Just realize that Chicago is still going to be there when you go, so you will be able to come back and visit whenever you like. Also, there are some restaurants that will ship food to you, like Portillos. I don't know how much this costs or anything. Yes, you can get the Chicago Trib mailed to you, if you don't mind 'old' news. But that would certainly be one way to keep in touch with the City. And, you can get "A Taste of Chicago" through the mail. Just check out the website. It is offered by Lou Malnati's http://www.tastesofchicago.com/... And don't forget....WGN is broadcast nationally on cable! I was watching Chicago news down in Tennessee long before I ever moved up to Illinois. Good luck on your move. Change is hard, but it can be great. |
