Is Lincoln Park a safe area?

Travel Info
My sister just moved to Chicago and lives in an area called Lincoln Park. I am worried about her and I hope someone can set my mind at ease. She does not have a car and rides the train to work and school. (Columbia College)

Travel Tips
I was raised in LP along with my brother and sister. I now live in LP with my husband and son. I also attended Columbia College and Depaul University and took public transportation. We have not had a problem here once in the last 30 years. It probably has the lowest crime rate for neighborhood's in the city.

As always when you live in any big city you must keep your wits about you. Travel with people at night, try to avoid the subway during late hours, don't venture into areas you are not familiar with etc... Since she is in college and will inevitably go to bars in and around the neighborhood I would warn her about being safe if she drinks too much. She should always have another girl to go home with they should be looking out for each other.

Lincoln Park is an area filled with college kids, young professionals, and wealthy families. I'm sure your sister will be fine.
Others
Being born and raised in Chicago, I can vouch for Lincoln Park. It is a very safe area. Furthermore, there are quite a few college students that live in that area that are students of the downtown colleges, Depaul, Columbia, Academy of Design. As all big cities, your sister should be cautious and use wisdom as to how she operates in a new place. But, Lincoln Park is safe. Hope this helps a bit
Lincoln Park is very safe. It's one of the more expensive areas in the city to live.
Born, raise and living in Chicago. Also, my husband lived in Lincoln Park for many years before we got married.
Lincoln Park is among the safest parts of Chi-town. BUT, as is the case with all big cities, she should be careful especially after dark. Take a friend, take a cab...just don't be walking around after midnight....it is a wonderful place, so don't freak out....
Yeah, pretty safe. There can be trouble in any part of the city, but Lincoln Park, being a relatively wealthy area, get a lot of police protection She'll be OK. Riding the train or bus is OK. It can get a little hinky late at night, but there are a lot of people riding it at most times of night and if she doesn't feel safe, she can always sit in the first train car near the driver or near the driver on the bus. Just tell her to keep her wits about her and not be afraid to tell someone to bug off.
Dont worry at all your sister has just moved into one of Chicago's richest and safest neighborhoods. The only problem in lincoln park just like any other nice white neighborhood in chicago are criminals who come from outside the neighborhood (mostly thugs from the south and westsides) to prey on law abiding citizens who want to live in a nice neighborhood. She should otherwise be find, I wish i could afford to live over there.
