What is the best beach to go to in Chicago? |
Travel Info is the water clean enough to swim in? Travel Tips I'd put Oak Street first, North Ave. second. Oak street has lots of "hard bodies"... men and women, whatever you're looking for. Lots of rollerbladers, suntanners, bikeriders, etc. And there's a little beach house restaurant serving real meals, not just beach food like hot dogs. North ave. beach is mostly families, although there is a volleyball section. I think you have to be a member of one of the sports social clubs to play, though. But there are a lot of people there on the weekend to. In fact, you can walk from North Ave. beach to Oak Street beach. Just go along the bike path (watch out for the bikes). As far as swimming, people do get in the water, but it's not for me. I keep hearing stories about fecal matter in the water and bacteria, etc. Every once in a while in the summer, they issue a beach warning and bar people from getting in the water because of the bacteria. I'd just lie on the beach and relax if i were you. Bring a radio, blanket, sodas... you're good to go. Others Oak Street without a doubt;excellent scenery!! North Ave Beach is great as well It depends on your needs and likes. Oak Street Beach is right by all the downtown shopping and is highly visible; features the Oak Street Beachstro. As others mentioned, North Avenue is huge and extremely popular; it's really see-and-be-seen over there; also has a restaurant and sports taking place. Do you prefer a quieter beach? A good beach to bring your kids? A doggie beach? Because for any of these, you would probably not want to go to Oak Street nor North Avenue.... |
