Why are housing prices so low in Zion, Illinois? |
Travel Info My husband got a job in Waukegan and we're looking for houses in the area. There are many more houses available in our price range in Zion than there are in other areas. I'm wondering if something is going on in Zion that makes people not want to live there? Travel Tips Not to sound rude, but anything close to Waukegan is probably going to be more reasonable...Waukegan is known for many "low lifes", and "undesirables".... I know that sounds terrible, and I apologize to anyone that might live there now...The crime rate is higher, than some of the other surrounding areas, but it is just known for not being so good... Others Zion is just a little more "behind the times" than Waukegan. There is still a lot of prejudice, and the schools aren't that great. Waukegan is definitely better than Zion...they have a better downtown, better schools, and offers more, which has driven the property values up over Zion. There is a large hispanic population, and southern Waukegan, next to North Chicago, is much less desireable. I would stick to east of GreenBay between Grand and Sunset. I've got a house for sale in Waukegan (I moved to TN)...let's make a deal!!! Here's the link...just in case :) http://homes.realtor.com/search/listingd... ...or it could be because there used to be a nuclear power plant in Zion and there have been radioactive contaminants found in the groundwater around the plant and people are worried about it seeping into their drinking water and may want to sell cheap and get out. Sorry to be a downer, but thought you should know. Do some thorough research before you sign on the bottom line. http://cbs2chicago.com/topstories/local_... |
