What is the best area to live in Chicago? |
Travel Info I am a 24 year old who is going to work in Chicago. What is the best area in the greater Chicago area for people like me to live. I have never been to Chicago and would just like to know what places are good for new college grads to live. Safe affordable and close to "fun" spots. Travel Tips The post-college crowd tends to be in the Lincoln Park and Lakeview neighborhods, some of the most fun and accessible areas of Chicago. Draw a big square between the streets of Fullerton on the south, Irving Park on the north, the lake on the east and Ashland on the west. That's the area, especially in and around Wrigley Field and the corner of Clark and Diversey. The Bucktown/Wicker Park neighborhood (draw about a mile's circle around the corner of North, Damen, and Milwaukee) is also very popular, if a little more "artsy." Others There are so many great neighborhoods to live in when you are young and want to enjoy the city. My first instinct would the Bucktown/Wicker Park area. I love it there. Great restaurants, bars, unique shops but still a neighborhood feel. I would be flexible. Only sign a year lease. All of the neighborhoods in Chicago have their own personality and you will find the one that fits you best after you live there for a bit. Let's see...Gold Coast, Lincoln Park, Lakeview, or Bucktown...Basically anywhere on the Northside...Now far as Southside...let's see Hyde Park, Bronzeville, and South Loop Suburbs are Oak Park and Evanston.... All of the neighborhoods really do have their own feel. I've lived in the South Loop (now too expensive, but great), Wicker Park, Rogers Park (never again!) and now Logan Square... I love the Square. It really depends on what kind of person you are. If you have any friends in Chicago, hit them up for some couch space for a few weeks while you check the place out. I put a link below; it's a good apartment finder. Whatever you do, make sure that you're near one of the train lines. Blue and Red best. Avoid the Brown line... too much construction right now. http://classifieds.chicagoreader.com/chi... West Garfield Park I would suggest the North Side, they have lots of great condos and such right on the lake front. It may cost you a few dollars but its worth it. You should try and look in Lake Point Towers, its right on Lake Michigan, they have a fantastic view and its minutes from everything "fun" in the city. |
