What should I do on a weekend trip to Chicago, besides baseball? |
Travel Info Dates are 5/26-28, not renting a car. Already seeing baseball. What else? Travel Tips Take a walk through Millenium Park. If you like diners and burgers, try Ed Debevics. Or some great sandwiches at Ricobenes. [drool] Sink your teeth into a pizza at Giordanos or Pizzeria Uno. What about a zoo..Lincoln Park Zoo is free. Go to the top of the John Hancock building, its a must-see. The Hancock is on Michigan Ave, a great area to walk around in, and the historic Water Tower is down the street a bit from Hancock.. Others Navy Pier Fireworks are every Saturday & Wednesday night, roughly around 10PM. Don't miss the museums in Chicago. Chicago has some of the best museums in the world. Examples of some great museums include the Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Shedd Aquarium. The best way to see these sites on the cheap is with a CityPass (www.citypass.com). The CityPass will give you admission tickets to most of these destinations for about half off. Also, ditch the rental car. Driving in Chicago is a pain in the butt. The public transit system is safe and can get you about anywhere you want to go. Buy a multiday pass, it's cheaper that way. If you're seeing the Cubbies and enjoy beer, stroll down the street to one of the best beer bars in the nation. Sheffield's Beer and Wine Garden (3258 N. Sheffield Ave, Chicago, IL) is a must for any beer connoisseur. Don't miss some incredible food. Swing buy an UNOs to experience the original deep dish Chicago-style pizza, grab a Chicago hot dog, and definitely go get some "Chicago mix" popcorn from Garrett's Popcorn Shop (670 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL) and bring it to the game. Other than that, tell me some of your interests and I can suggest more specific sites. You can also wander around the near north side. There's the Hard Rock Cafe, Ed Debevicks, Rock and Roll McDonald's, Planet Hollywood, and you're only a few blocks from Michigan Ave. with tons of shopping. It's a lot of fun and it's easy to get a cab from there to wherever you're staying. You gotta eat a Chicago style hot dog and deep dish pizza. Many people go to the top of the Sears Tower but the view of the city is actually better at the top of the John Hancock building, plus you can eat at the restaurant there if you want. NAVY PIER The Shed Aquarium. The "metal bean". The cheesecake factory. I also recommend visiting the Virgin Records store. I got my favorite t-shirt from there... not to mention the books and albums etc. they sell. Eat, shop, and just walk around...oh and hopefully you've got lots of film. I went camera happy when I visited. I've been once, and I fell in love right away. Chicago is amazing. I cannot wait to go back. |
