What can we do in Chicago to entertain a group of people? |
Travel Info My sister-in-law, her fiance, their wedding party (I'm the maid of honor), and some of her family are all coming up from IN to our place (we live in a suburb) the weekend before the wedding. We'd like to bring them downtown and do something fun but, honestly, I haven't spent much time in the city and I'm not sure what we can do? She doesn't want to go to a club or bar so something else that would be entertaining and fun? The wedding is June 9th and they're coming up June 2nd. We just found out they're all coming last night! I'd appreciate any suggestions you can give. Thanks so much! Travel Tips Try Second City. Even if you don't see the main show, there is a free improv set right after that (about 10 p.m. most days). But I recommend seeing the main show. Someone in the cast is eventually going to be on SNL and when they are, you can say, Hey, I saw them in Chicago! There are also other comedy clubs like I.O. (Improv olympic), The Playground Theater, the Annoyance theater... Most of the time it's a good night out and it's usually pretty cheap (about $10). of course you can always do the touristy thing and go to navy Pier. Lots to see and do there. People can go off in their own direction and explore the ferris wheel, merry-go-round, crystal garden, shops and carts, etc. and meet back together for dinner at Joe's Be-Bop Cafe or Bubba Gump or something. Others Why not dump them in Lake Michigan? go to a show.....take a lake dinner cruise or a river architectural cruise....have a cookout.....go to a Cubs game (they are home against Atlanta June 2nd and 3rd) or a White Sox game (they are home against the Yankees and Houston) you have endless opportunities in Chicago Go to Lou Malnati's or Gino's East for good pizza some night or go to the House of Blues or a comedy club or the Chicago Symphony. Take them to the lakefront and walk through Grant and Millennium Park. Major attractions can be found on the following tourism site: http://www.gochicagocard.com/?gcid=s1800... Navy Pier has many activities and attractions boat rides, ferris wheel, theatre and live performances plus bars, food and cotton candy. Try this site for the calendar of events: http://www.navypier.com/cal_events/cal_h... Take a free ride on the trolley to Milennium Park: http://www.cityofchicago.org/transportat... I would suggest a walk through Milennium Park and a snack at the Park Grill: http://www.millenniumpark.org/ http://www.parkgrillchicago.com/... i would take them to dinner at lou malnati's and then dessert at margie's candies (side note, they are not near to each other). lou's is always crowded so call and order your pizzas ahead so they'll be almost ready when your table is and have fun at margie's! everyone else gave good advice for entertainment, though! http://www.loumalnatis.com/ http://www.chicagoist.com/2004/06/16/a_c... |
