2days,2nights in Chicago in August? |
Travel Info Me and my wife from SoCalifornia heading to Wisconsin for a wedding. But before, we are staying @ the Marriott on the 'Miracle Mile' on Michigan ave. Any must dos? Must eats? Touristy or not. The navy pier looks cool. We are almost 30 and like to enjoy ourselves. We have been told we are staying in a good spot.(?) Travel Tips You're staying in a very good spot. Navy Pier is great. Touristy, but great. You should also check out the Lincoln Park area. Less touristy, great shops and restaurants. If you have time, check out The Field Museum and /or the Shedd Aquarium, both are amazing, you could spend an entire day at The Field Museum, and still not see half of the exhibits. If you feel like a Cubs game (and their at home), you can always get tickets by the front gate. Want to here some real Chicago style blues? Head over to Kingston Mines or Buddy Guy's Legends. And, IMO, the best place to try a real Chicago style hot dog is The Weiner Circle on Clark. For Chicago Style pizza, try either Pizzeria Uno or Giordano's Just be ready for the weather. In August, Chicago will be hot!! And unlike California, it's a wet, humid heat. It can take the energy right out of you, so seek out air conditioned recreation during the middle of the day, or carry a water bottle if your outside. Hope this helps. Have fun! Almost forgot. If you want a bird's eye view of Chicago, take the top of the Hancock building over the Sears Tower. The Sears Tower is SO tall that everything below is a blur. The Hancock gives a better view of the city, and the 95th is a great restaurant with a fantastic view. Casual for brunch and lunch, upscale casual for dinner. Source(s): Chicago born and bred Other Travel Tips You are staying in a good spot. You are within one mile of the aquarium, planetarium, and museum. One thing worth seeing and free is Millennium Park (3 blocks south). Also, Wicked is an excellent play (check with your hotel to see if they have any show packages available.) If you haven't seen Blue Man Group (Briar Street Theater) it is an experience worth seeing . If you're into "Meat" most any of the char or chop houses in the area are good. Check with the concierge for the local nightclub hot spots.. Hope you have a good trip. I live in Chicago Yes do the John Hancock, and its on Michigan Avenue. Navy Pier has a bit of everything, its a popular tourist spot. And you can take a lake cruise from navy pier. Theres great food everywhere..you might want to try deep dish pizza at Pizzeria Uno. if you do go up the hancock (as recommended in comparison to sears) go to the lounge floor and pay $5 for a beer or $10 for a cocktail instead of the $15-ish dollar ticket to the observatory floor. same great views, but you get to enjoy it sitting down sipping on a drink, alcoholic or non alcoholic. (best view in the ladies' restroom, although everywhere you look is awesome.) i recommend lou malnati's pizzeria as opposed to uno's. their deep dish is FAR superior. (caution: very busy, you can order your pizza before you arrive and have it almost ready when you get your table.) for a fun little date dessert, margie's candies is awesome, too. also, as recommended check out millenium park. i like walking s. on michigan to the park and then walking back north, lakeside which takes you to the pier. cubs = good idea. 21-25 isn't the WORST record... : ) some links: http://www.chicagoist.com/2004/06/16/a_c... http://www.loumalnatis.com/locations/chi... navy pier is touristy, but fun. oh, and if you or your wife like shopping, you're in the place to be! have fun- chicago is an amazing city! You are staying in the perfect place to do the touristy stuff. I would definitely check out Navy Pier, you will be pretty close to it. It is worth it to take a boat ride on Navy Pier if you can. They also have a water taxi on Navy Pier which will take you to the museum campus, where the museums are located. Be sure to take a ride on the Ferris Wheel in Navy Pier...Great views of the city!! Definitely do either the John Hancock or Sears Tower. Also Millennium Park is free and it's right on Michigan Ave. Ed Debovic's is a really cute place to eat if you like 50's style places. The waiters are all dressed up from the 50's and they have music playing. They even have Green River soda! It's just fun. |
