Traveling to Chicago in October what is there to do? |
Travel Info My husband is being sent by his company to Chicago in October to Petty's Driving Experience. But that is during the day for about half the day. What else is there fun to do in Chicago during his down time? Also what is the weather like that time of the year? Any suggestions would be great thanks! Travel Tips Theres plenty to do If you like shopping, hit Michigan Avenue, or just walk down it, its a nice walk. If you like art, theres the Art Institute. If you want to be outside, go to Grant Park and/or Millennium Park. [theyre both free] Love animals?..go to Lincoln Park Zoo. [its free[ Food?....try deep dish pizza if you havent..try some at Ginos East or Giordanos. If you like Greek food, head to Greektown. For anyone visiting Chicago, I'd tell them to go to the top of the John Hancock for a great view and skip the Sears T. Is your husband free at night...a really nice drive is a drive down Lake Shore Drive at night. [daytime too] I love October weather in Chi. Highs in the 60's..great temperatures for walking around in the city! Hope you have a great time. Others eat gyros and chicago style hot dogs. the museum of science and industry is really cool but you will miss most of it if you only have part of a day. It is usually cool to cold but I would visit Navy Pier multi cultural experience and lots of fun. Check out things to do on line is your best bet after seeing what others have to say. There are lots of Museums in the Loop and an excellent Library, all within walking distance. The best is the Art Institute. Over to the other side of the park from Art Institute is the Field Museum, as well as a the Shedd Aquarium, and a Planetarium. So, there is a choice of four museums just in Grant Park Alone. In all fairness, people who actually live in Chicago hardly go to any attraction but work or a ball game. If you go to touristy parts of town, expect to meet other out-of-towners, or servicemen on leave. The top of the Sears Tower will also be full of gawky tourists. True Chicagoans head for the Hancock Center and see a better view for free at a bar on the 99th floor, or thereabouts, (I forget what actual floor it is). Depending on when in October you are coming, the weather can be pleasant to chilly...you did not say the exact dates you would be here, but especially towards mid to end of October there are plenty of activities for Halloween. Two events that come to mind are Chicagoween in Daley Center Plaza and Navy Fear at Navy Pier.... As others have stated with all the museums around there is something for everyone. If the weather is pleasant you can walk around Grant and Millenium Parks and even see Buckingham Fountain on. Also a short bus ride away is Lincoln Park Zoo...one of the few free zoos in the US. www.cityofchicago.org is the best for anything going on in Chicago. Hello this is Dawn G. I added you because i was interested in what more you had to say on my sons behalf. Ok you asked how he acts at home?? He is an angel at home and at his dads. His dad has told me of some problems but he is for the most part well behaved... It's the sitters, and his school now! Ever since kindergarden he has acted out in school. He is in first grade now. Any time anyone wants to approach him at school about a problem he runs from them. And yes I only took him to one phsycologist. and there was no change in his behavier.. The doc said it was definatly not the adhd or anything like that. It is more emotional.. Oh and I went to my profile and couldn't find how to update my stuff... Could you explain it a bit more? Oh and you may email me at redracecar69@yahoo.com. I am going to work. But will be back late tonight. Thank you again for your advice. Dawn G |
