Looking for fun family things to do on our vacation to Chicago...? |
Travel Info aside from the science and history meseum, what other things should i take my family to do or see while we are on vacation in Chicago next month?.. (we have two young sons 9 and 10 and two teenagers 14 and 17) TIA! Travel Tips There are tons of things to see and do. I will list a couple of my favorites for you, but I would check out the links that I have added below. They are good websites for checking out what is happening in and around Chicago. Sears Tower Skydeck Adler Planetarium - this is the forgotten child of the museum campus. It is full of facts, exhibits and other things from Space exploration and study. My kids love it. Shedd Aquarium - expensive to get into, but worth it for the exhibits. Go to a White Sox (or Cubs I guess) game. U.S. Cellular field has the best food around, and there are no obstructed views. Wrigley is o.k., but parking there for the game is a nightmare. If you go to Wrigley to see the Cubs take public transportation if you can. Brookfield Zoo/Linclon Park Zoo - I would go to one or both of the zoo's Chicago has to offer. Brookfield is huge, but has many more exhibits (including the new Stingray pond they just added where you can touch and feed them.) Linconln Park is smaller, but is free. Either is a good bet. Navy Pier - lots to do on Navy Pier, including a Children's museum If you don't mind the drive, you can go to Six Flags Great America. It is about an hour or so straight North up I-94 almost to the Wisconsin border. GREAT rides and a pretty cool theme park. I know you mentioned the Field Museum (history) and the Museum of Science and Industry but I would definitely check those out. Both have added some side attractions for the summer that are going to be very popular. I saw one of the attractions added at the Museum of Science ... in the paper, it is called CSI: The Experience. My daughter is a big fan of the show so we will definitely check this one out. I would also check out the websites below, becase starting Memorial Day weekend and ending around Labor Day there are a TON of festivals and other fun things planned. If you are going to be here in the last part of the month, for example, you will be able to experience the Taste of Chicago. We never miss it. Hope this helps. My kids use to love to go there. Stop by the Chicago Cultural Center. It's housed in a gorgeous building that was the original public library. Additionally, there's a visitor's center. You can schedule a free tour with a Chicago Greeter, and on Saturday mornings you can pick up tickets for a free "L" tour. To get around all the favorite spots, take a free trolley. They stop at Museum Campus, Navy Pier, Michigan Avenue, etc. Every weekend there are free art fairs. Thursdays through Sundays there are free dance lessons in Grant Park, and starting July 17 there are free movies in Grant Park on Tuesdays. Kids that age would also enjoy the Seadog. It's a speedboat tour that takes off from Navy Pier. Navy Pier also has a putting green, the huge Ferris wheel, flying swings and an IMAX theater. If you plan to visit several museums, check out the CityPass or GoChicagoCard. http://chicagosummerguide.com/ Tours: http://www.thelocaltourist.com/tour.htm... Things To Do: http://www.thelocaltourist.com/thingstod... Events: http://www.thelocaltourist.com/events... The aquarium and planetarium. Navy pier should be more in line with the teens, though there are a few things that younger children will enjoy. Certainly the Zoo is a must, it really is one of the better zoo's in the country and will be an all day event, also with a children's zoo on location.. |
