What is a nice hotel located in center of Charlotte, NC?

I will be attending an event at the Ovens Auditorium and would like to stay in a nice and safe hotel for the weekend that is close to great shopping.

We stayed at the Days Inn on Tryon Street or Tyron Street. It was downtown, about 10 minutes' walk into the centre. It's a motel kinda place, but nice and friendly. Cheap too.
