Who was Clinton street in Chicago named for?

Travel Info
Downtown Chicago has a number of streets named for presidents--Jackson, Monroe, Washington, Madison, Adams. There is also Clinton, but that is not for Bill, right?

Travel Tips
Clinton Street was named for DeWitt Clinton (1769-1828), the one-time mayor of New York City and a former governor of New York state who sponsored the construction of the Erie Canal, which led to the rapid settlement of Illinois and the establishment of Chicago as a major shipping port. Source(s): 4th generation resident of Chicago.
