Can you offer any advice for moving to Chicago?

Travel Info
I'm plan on leaving the City of Brotherly Love for the Windy City.
I figure the only difference between the two is what you call soft drinks, the time & landmarks. You both have excellent restaurants, obnoxious sports fanatics and crime ridden neighborhoods. But it's time for a change. Any suggestions on where to search for a job and an apartment? (I'm hoping to have a job lined up before I head out.)
Many thanks.

Travel Tips
There are many areas in Chicago that are really nice. Some of the artsy areas are great areas but cost plenty for rent and parking is a total premium. If you want to save money then you can go a bit further to the near north/northwest side. Jefferson Park, Portage Park, Wicker Park, Lincoln Square, Andersonville, Edgewater, and Rogers Park all are nice areas depending on what you are looking for. You many want to look at Evanston, IL for housing ideas it is just north of the city. All the areas are near transit.

Use the transit system and get either a Chicago Card or a Chicago Plus Card. Rates from about a year and a half ago are locked in (includes transfers), so you save money

Good hairspray or gel for the wind
Get a warmer jacket.
Best thing in Chicago is a brownstone downtown. Urban sprawl is really ugly, and if you are going to enjoy the city, be there. You can get some good deals maybe by U of C. But don''t get too far from the loop.

Good Luck
yah sure, ok you want to fit in, have surroundings good, 1. dont walk into the airport(if ur flying) with a green bay packers hat on, now if you like the green bay packers, ook, but ppl will ignore you, treat you like crap (just like living in new york and liking the red sox), 2. find an affordalbe home, not in the middle of no where, chicago actullay has a pretty low crime rate, find a home near ppl, neighorhood watch, just incase if robbers rob you, you have friends to help, 3. make friend with neighbors, townies, you dont want to get on the bad side, first impressions count, 4.this may sound crazy but *** soon as you get money, go to a bears game, ppl love the bears(that live in chicago) ppl will accept you as a outsider(someone born in another state) so thats it, stay out of trouble, dont go looking for trouble, and make friends.

Hope it helps!
it depends, if you're like the young artsy scene, Wicker Park/Bucktown, or Lincoln park. The northside, Wrigglyville, Roscoe Village, Lake View, also very hip and a little less crime. Where ever you go, its always good to live by an El stop, but not so close that it keeps you up at night. Two or three blocks from one is pretty ideal, because parking is such as hassle, and people will be more willing to come visit you if public transportation is easy. Living right downtown is really really expensive, but I dont know your pricerange, so that would be a pretty great option too. Good luck, start harvesting food for next winter now.
