How much is cab fare in Chicago?

I'm going to chicago without driving for the first time and we are going to take a cab from the train station to 1000 w. North Ave. Map quest said it would take about 7 minutes driving time and about 3 1/2 miles. we are all strapped for cash so we were wondering about how much it normally is. is it per mile or what?

It's $2.25 when you first get in the cab. The additional fraction of a mile charge is $.20 for each additional 1/9 mile. Every 36 seconds of time elapsed is $.20. The flat fee for the first additional passenger is $1.00. The flat fee for each additional passenger, after the first additional passenger is $.50.
