Chicago Natives?????????????? |
Travel Info I live in South Florida and met a guy from Chicago he said he was from the Eastside? I have only been to your great town once what's the difference between the Eastside and Southside (which I have heard about)?? Travel Tips Contrary to what people say, Chicago does indeed have an East side. I mean EVERY area of land in the world has an east side. If Chicago didn't have an east side, that would mean that the John Hancock building is on the west side of the city. When people used to say the city doesn't have an east side, they meant that there was no housing there, so no one was living in that area. so they didn't consider it a legitimate part of the city. But geographically speaking, that was the east side of Chicago. But in recent years there has been a BIG boom in housing over in that area of the city. Condos have been popping up all over the place along Lake shore drive and east wacker drive. There are new condos springing up along the Chicago River where it runs into Lake Michigan. If fact, if you travel there, you will see banners hanging off the light posts calling the area "The New Eastside". It is a VERY expensive area to live right now. which is probably the biggest difference between the East Side and the South Side. You CAN find expensive housing in areas of the south side, but generally that area is mostly working class residents of modest means. You gotta have big bucks to live in the new condos on the east side. Others Well the Eastside tends to get a little more wet since the Eastside would be the lake. If he means that he lives right on the lake front then good for him. Those apartments are usually expensive. The East Side is one of Chicago's 77 officially recognized neighborhoods. It is located on the far south/east edge of the city, near the Indiana border. See the map on the Wikipedia entry for the exact location. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/east_side,_... Well it depends. The eastside could mean he's right on the lake in a condo, or it could mean he's from the projects which are also located on lake in some areas. The southside is bad and good. All "sides" have there good and bad areas. Just ask him? Im sure he'll have no problem telling you. |
